Protecting Laptops While Travelling
Broadband and Wi-Fi have made it easier for travellers to access the Internet even when they are on a trip. More globe trotters are now bringing their laptops along so that they can enjoy using the online networks found in most tourist establishments. Others also need their computers so that they can work en route to their business meetings abroad. However, some unfortunately lose their electronic device or crucial information stored inside it due to thieves.
There are precautionary measures you can take to make sure that your laptop and the sensitive data it contains are secured. One thing you can do is to make backup copies for your important documents. This way, you will still have a personal file in case any data is stolen or damaged. Another suggestion is to create passwords for your computer and your personal broadband network. In case anyone tries to get into your laptop’s archives without authority, you can block them out with your secret code. Also, make sure to keep your firewall, anti-virus, and spyware programs updated so that they can effectively track any potential harm in your system. This is especially helpful when you are using Wi-Fi services in a hotel or airport.
Other than securing your information, you also need to safeguard your device from thieves in terminals, on board transportation, or while you are sightseeing. Never leave your computer unattended in public places and keep it in your bag, preferably in one with thick padding inside and protective material outside.
